Douglas Robertson, M.D.
Dr. Robertson is Chief of Gastroenterology at the White River Junction VA Medical Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School and The Dartmouth Institute.
Dr. Robertson's research interests include understanding the epidemiology of colorectal cancer and the utility of screening and surveillance for this disease. Although colonoscopy is increasingly performed, his research suggests that the degree of cancer prevention afforded may not be as great as suggested by earlier studies. He currently serves as the National Co-Chair of Cooperative Studies Program #577: Colonoscopy vs. Fecal Immunochemical Test in Reducing Mortality from Colorectal Cancer (CONFIRM). This trial will randomize 50,000 Veterans to either colonoscopy or stool testing with FIT and assess death from colorectal cancer after 10 years of follow up.
