Susana Asin, Ph.D.
Dr. Asin has been working at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in HIV Research since 2001. She is a funded researcher and maintains a dual appointment at Dartmouth College as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
Dr. Asin's research centers on the pathogenesis of mucosal transmission of HIV-1, and the role of inflammation triggered by sexually transmitted pathogens in the female reproductive tract. With her colleagues, she is also studying the effect of bacterial vaginosis and tobacco use on women’s susceptibility to infection by HIV-1. Dr. Asin’s laboratory is participating in a clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy (anti-HIV-1 activity) of CONRAD microbicides against multi-drug resistant viruses.
