White River Junction, VT – The White River Junction VA Medical Center announces expanded support for Veterans research and education programs throughout northern New England. The Veterans Education and Research Association of Northern New England, Inc. (VERANNE) is a non-profit corporation founded in 1989 to support research and education activities at the White River Junction VA Medical Center. It is one of a network of “VA non-profit corporations” established under Public Law 100-322 to provide a more efficient mechanism for private and non-VA public funding of VA research and education.
On May 3, 2012, VA Secretary Eric Shinsecki approved the creation of a “VA multi-non-profit corporation,” which will now allow VERANNE to expand its support services to the Manchester, NH VA Medical Center, and the VA Maine Healthcare System. VERANNE is the first VA non-profit corporation in the nation to receive approval to serve multiple VA medical centers under new VA regulations released in December 2010.
Current collaborations between Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine VA investigators have already established strong lines of communication between the three facilities, while senior VA leadership of these three sites continue to work closely on many issues related to Veteran services. The availability of industry and non-VA federal funds administration will greatly benefit the Manchester and VA Maine programs, and will facilitate the growth of research and education services to Veterans throughout northern New England.
